We are hiring a Marketing and Fundraising Manager!

Job description:

  • Location: Remote / Bristol, England
  • Salary: Competitive, based on experience
  • Hours: Flexible: we have a four-day working week
  • Contract type: Contractor
  • Start Date: Late January or February 2025

Key Responsibilities

1. Marketing Strategy

    • Develop and execute a comprehensive outreach strategy. This should include a marketing plan aligned with HLI’s strategic goals, focusing on increasing donations and building awareness of HLI’s work.

    • Identify and target key audience segments, including individual donors, researchers, effective giving platforms, institutional funders, and high net-worth individuals. 

2. Content Creation and Management

    • Create compelling narratives and high-quality content to effectively communicate our research findings to different stakeholder groups through social media, email campaigns, the website, and other channels.

    • Assist the research team with editing and refining donor-focused materials, research summaries, and marketing materials.

3. Digital Campaigns

    • Plan and manage campaigns around key events like the publication of the World Happiness Report that we feature in (coming March 2025), fundraising drives, and research launches.

4. Analytics

    • Analyze the effectiveness of different outreach and fundraising approaches, continuously refining our strategies based on data-driven insights.

5. Website Management

    • Help ensure HLI’s website remains user-friendly, visually appealing, and up-to-date.

    • Collaborate with developers to implement new features, like enhanced donation flows or research presentation formats.

6. Donor Engagement 

    • Craft compelling appeals for potential donors across income levels.

    • Develop and execute strategies to encourage recurring donations to both HLI and our recommended charities.

    • Build and maintain relationships with potential donors, partners, and influencers in the effective altruism and global development spaces.

7. Collaboration

    • Work closely with the Director, COO and researchers to translate findings into digestible and impactful communications.

    • Collaborate with external stakeholders, including effective giving platforms, journalists, funders, and partner organizations.

 

Key Requirements

Experience: 

    • 3+ years in marketing, communications, fundraising or a related field, ideally in the nonprofit or research sectors.

    • Proven experience in designing and implementing successful outreach and fundraising strategies, preferably in the non-profit or effective altruism sector.

    • Familiarity with both public-facing campaigns and institutional donor relations.

    • Experience of working independently in a global, remote team.

Skills:

    • Proven ability to design, experiment and execute successful communications and marketing campaigns.

    • Exceptional writing and storytelling skills, with experience translating complex ideas into accessible content.

    • Proficiency in managing social media platforms, email marketing tools (e.g., Mailchimp), and CMS systems (e.g., WordPress, Divi).

    • Strong analytical skills to evaluate the effectiveness of various outreach methods. 

    • Familiarity with data-driven decision-making, using tools like Google Analytics or other performance trackers.

    • Familiarity with WordPress (Divi plug-in) to efficiently work on our website.

    • Basic design and video editing skills (e.g., Canva, Adobe Suite) are a plus.

    • Self-motivated, adaptable, comfortable with ambiguity and able to thrive in a start-up like, remote work environment.

    • Collaborative team player with excellent communication skills.
